San Diego, CA – Before more than 400 businesses and civic leaders, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer announced Go Global San Diego, a united effort of 30 regional partners including the Brookings Institute, JP Morgan Chase & Co. and the San Diego Regional EDC to make San Diego’s businesses more globally competitive, improve the city’s overall economy and increase opportunities for San Diego residents.
With more than 85 percent of global growth through 2019 projected to occur outside of the U.S., global engagement is a big opportunity for many American cities. According to the Brookings Institute, San Diego has the 17th largest economy in the U.S. but ranks 61st in export intensity. The Mayor’s Go Global San Diego initiative will launch a series of programs designed to help San Diego businesses attract foreign customers and investment, targeting key metro markets, including London, Tokyo, Stockholm and other major global cities.
