San Diego, CA – Amid whirring 3D printers, flashing LED lights and other awe-inspiring tech fanfare, San Diego Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer and Tijuana Mayor Jorge Astiazarán joined the founder of Maker Faire, Dale Dougherty, to kick off the first annual San Diego Maker Faire and Balboa Park’s centennial fall signature event of the year.
Part science fair, part county fair, Maker Faire is a showcase of invention, creativity and a celebration of the Maker Movement. The Maker Movement is a global tech-influenced “do-it-yourself community” that creates their own innovation ecosystem by developing new products and services that influence the world. The San Diego Maker Faire will be a festival of San Diego’s unique innovation economy and incorporate all of Balboa Park from October 3rd to the 4th.
