San Diego – Making good on his commitment to create more opportunities for underserved communities, Mayor Faulconer joined San Diego Community College District Chancellor Constance Carroll, Ph.D., UC San Diego Associate Vice Chancellor of Public Programs Mary Walshok, Ph.D., San Diego Regional EDC President and CEO Mark Cafferty and other prominent leaders from San Diego’s civic, education, and business communities to introduce concrete actions that will help connect residents to good-paying careers in the San Diego’s innovation economy.
At the State of the City Address on January 14, 2015, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer called on prominent local leaders to recommend solutions that improve access to affordable education, increase opportunities for young people in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields and connect residents to successful careers that command a higher wage. This group, the OpportunityWORKS taskforce, will introduce new recommendations that help close the skills gap and connect residents to opportunities in the city’s growing innovation economy and broader job market.
