Mayor Faulconer Christens First San Diego-Built Eco-Friendly Tanker Ship

General Dynamics NASSCO Employed Hundreds of San Diegans to Build First of Five Tankers

Saturday, Oct.17, 2015 - NEWS RELEASE

San Diego, CA – At the West Coast’s only full-service shipyard, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer helped christen an innovative, fuel-efficient, eco-friendly tanker ship constructed at General Dynamics NASSCO.

The 610-foot Lone Star State “ECO” tanker is the first of a five-ship contract between NASSCO and American Petroleum Tankers. Construction of the ships has employed hundreds of San Diegans and sustained thousands of additional jobs.

Mayor Faulconer announced the start of construction for the Lone Star State in September 2014 and his wife, Katherine Stuart Faulconer, welded her initials during the keel laying ceremony in March to commemorate the ship’s ties to San Diego.
