Faulconer Joins Water Leaders to Dedicate the San Vicente Dam Raise Project

$416M Project is Largest Water Storage Increase in County History

Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - NEWS RELEASE

San Diego, CA – This morning, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer joined San Diego County Water Authority officials and others to dedicate the San Vicente Dam Raise project.

The $416 million dam raise is the largest water storage increase in San Diego County history and will provide the region with a critical hedge against future water shortages.

The height of the original dam, which was built in 1943, has been increased by 117 feet and allows for an additional 152,000 acre-feet of water storage capacity in the reservoir, which is enough to serve more than 300,000 homes a year.

The City of San Diego and the San Diego County Water Authority will share the cost of operating the expanded reservoir.
