Mayor Faulconer Announces Hiring of New Chief of Staff

Aimee Faucett to Join Mayor’s Office Next Month, Current Chief Stephen Puetz Joining National Consulting Firm

Thursday, June 15, 2017 - NEWS RELEASE

San Diego – The Mayor’s Office today announced the hiring of Aimee Faucett as Chief of Staff. Stephen Puetz, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer’s longtime Chief of Staff, will be joining national consulting firm Axiom Strategies.

Faucett, who currently serves as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer for the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, will join the Mayor’s Office on Monday, July 17, following Puetz’s departure on Friday, July 14.

“Stephen has been my trusted advisor for many years. His strong work ethic, tenacity and love of San Diego have served our city well. Having Stephen at the helm was pivotal in returning City Hall's focus to our neighborhoods and making city government more efficient, effective and customer-service oriented. He will be deeply missed and I thank him for his leadership,” Mayor Faulconer said. “I’m happy to welcome Aimee back to my staff. Her years of experience at City Hall, both in the Mayor’s Office and on the City Council floor, will allow her to hit the ground running. Aimee is one of the most respected civic leaders in San Diego and her love for public service shines through everything she does. We have a lot of things to get done for our city and I know Aimee is ready to get started."

The Chief of Staff oversees the Mayor’s staff and acts as his top advisor.

Faucett has served the San Diego community for more than 20 years while working in the legislative and executive branches of city government and volunteering on several nonprofit boards. At the Chamber, Faucett oversees day-to-day operations, directs public policy initiatives and develops strategies to ensure San Diego remains the most business-friendly city in the state. The San Diego State graduate previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff for former Mayor Jerry Sanders and as Chief of Staff to then-Councilmember Faulconer and former Councilmember Jim Madaffer, among other positions at City Hall. Aimee currently serves on the Convention Center Board of Directors.

“It’s a pleasure to be back at City Hall serving the residents of our great city and to once again work alongside Mayor Faulconer,” Faucett said. “I look forward to helping Mayor Faulconer get the expansion of the Convention Center across the finish line, tackle the homeless crisis, make housing more affordable, grow our economy and deliver excellent city services to every community.”

Puetz has served as Mayor Faulconer’s Chief of Staff since he took office, and led his City Council office in 2013. He also ran Faulconer’s successful mayoral campaign in 2014 and the 2012 City Council campaigns of current Councilmembers Mark Kersey and Scott Sherman. Puetz won the 2014 “Campaign Manager of the Year” award from the American Association of Political Consultants. Puetz, a graduate of California State University San Marcos, previously worked for Axiom during the 2010 election cycle.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of San Diego and help implement Mayor Faulconer’s vision of an inclusive city government that creates opportunities for San Diegans and delivers results for every neighborhood,” Puetz said. “I want to thank the mayor, my staff and all of the dedicated City employees who work so hard each and every day fixing our streets, improving our neighborhoods and keeping us safe.”
