Mayor Faulconer Introduces New UberMILITARY Initiatives to Support San Diego Veterans & Their Families

Mayor Promotes Innovative Program That Provides Opportunities for Vets

San Diego, CA – Amongst thousands of decorated war heroes, floats and families preparing for the 2014 San Diego Veteran’s Day Parade, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer joined one of the nation’s most innovative companies, Uber, to promote two new programs that help provide opportunities to our military veterans transitioning to civilian life.

During the event, Uber will launched Veterans Day initiative that will allow riders to request a trip with a driver-partner who is a military veteran or spouse. The vehicle option, also titled UberMILITARY, will go live in the Uber smartphone app at 8 a.m. on Veterans Day. New programs under UberMILITARY introduce service members, veterans and military spouses to Uber and empower them as entrepreneurs and small business owners. Over the next 16 months, Uber is seeking to on-board 50,000 new driver-partners from America’s military community.
