San Diego, CA – Coinciding with the national campaign “Expect, Employ, Empower” for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer joined the City of San Diego’s Office of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance, several city council members and disability service groups on the Civic Center Plaza to promote awareness and opportunities for San Diegans with disabilities.

Following a formal proclamation presentation and welcome remarks, the Mayor and several city council members encouraged the public to participate in several interactive learning opportunities donated from disability service professionals that attempt to replicate the challenges people with disabilities face. Some of these learning opportunities included wearing glasses that simulate varying types of vision loss, working with sign language interpreters, walking with service dogs and operating a wheelchair and other disability adaptive equipment.
