San Diego – Continuing his push to connect more residents to learning and career opportunities in San Diego’s booming innovation economy, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer welcomed young children from across San Diego to the city’s biggest celebration of science, technology, engineering and math.
The San Diego Festival of Engineering is presented by Illumina and is a program of the BIOCOM Institute in partnership with UC San Diego, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and the San Diego County Office of Education. The exciting day featured hands-on exhibits, presentations and activities provided by 130 local businesses and organizations from across Southern California.
Earlier this week, Mayor Faulconer introduced a workforce development plan from his OpportunityWORKS taskforce, a committee comprised of the city’s brightest minds in innovation, technology, education and business. The recommendations from the plan will help close the skills gap, improve access to affordable education and connect residents to opportunities in the city’s growing innovation economy and broader job market.
