Friday, February 20, 2015 - NEWS RELEASE

San Diego, CA – Ensuring that promises made are promises kept, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer will join Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman to welcome 48 newly hired police recruits to the San Diego Police Department. During the command staff portion of orientation day, Mayor Faulconer will speak to the recruits – who start in the police academy on Monday – about the importance of community policing and One San Diego. The orientation comes a week after membership of the San Diego Police Officers Association formally voted to approve a new contract to address the department’s recruitment and retention crisis. The next step is a ratification vote by the City Council, which is expected next month.
