Construction & Demolition (C&D) Recycling

On July 1, 2008, the PDF icon C&D Debris Deposit Ordinance took effect. The ordinance requires that the majority of construction, demolition and remodeling projects requiring building, combination and demolition permits:

  1. Pay a refundable C&D Debris Recycling Deposit;
  2. Divert their debris by recycling, reusing or donating usable materials; and
  3. Keep C&D materials out of local landfills and ensure they get recycled.

New C&D Debris Diversion Requirement

For projects with permits issued on or after July 1, 2016, the diversion requirement will increase to 65 percent by weight of the total C&D debris generated by the project. The diversion requirement for projects with permits issued through June 30, 2016 will remain at 50 percent.
