A Message From The Mayor

I am pleased to announce that the City of San Diego is taking part in a nationwide coordinated effort to encourage people to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. You are invited to join this effort.

September 2008 is National Preparedness Month. The City of San Diego is joining a variety of national, state and local organizations to educate the public about preparing for emergencies. We're taking steps as an organization to become educated, trained and better prepared, and we urge you to take time this month to do the same at home and work.

Please join us on Wednesday, September 10th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the City of San Diego's National Preparedness Month Safety Fair in downtown San Diego. Join us at Horton Square, 225 Broadway Circle, next to Horton Plaza. We will have hands on demonstrations and booths staffed by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, San Diego Police Department, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) San Diego, San Diego Office of Homeland Security, County Office of Emergency Services, and many more experts.

As a reminder - disaster strikes, usually without warning. You can help your families, your neighborhood, your businesses, and our community survive a disaster by being prepared. It's easy. The information on this site will help you better prepare, plan, and stay informed. I urge everyone to take action during National Preparedness Month. Preparing makes sense. Get Prepared. Get Involved.

Thank you.
