Mission Trails Regional Park 5-Peak Challenge

The 5-Peak Challenge is a multi-part hiking challenge set across the five major summits at the 7,220-acre Mission Trails Regional Park. Hikers who participate will traverse 11.5 miles of hiking trails for a total elevation change of 6,000 feet.

WE HAVE SHADE!

On October 10, Mira Mesa residents gathered to cut the ribbon on the new Westview Park Shade Structure. Thanks to the Mira Mesa Recreation Council and the City of San Diego’s Park & Recreation Department for their contributions. Children will now be able to play in a safer environment.

Rancho Family YMCA Gymnastics

Thanks to the Rancho Family YMCA for welcoming me. I toured their gymnastics facility and walked the beam. Their gymnastics program at Canyonside Recreation Center serves 600 gymnasts a month.

Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch programs are one of the most effective crime prevention programs in the nation. On July 2, we unveiled 96 new signs for Clairemont’s Neighborhood Watch programs.

Red Shoe Day

On June 25, my staff and I participated in Red Shoe Day at the intersection of Mira Mesa Boulevard & Westview Parkway for Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. As a team, we raised $947.20 for the Ronald McDonald House. Since 1980, Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego has provided a "home away from home" to families pursuing essential pediatric treatments at San Diego hospitals. I had the honor of welcoming Jose L. Cuisia, Jr., Philippine Ambassador to the United States of America, to City Hall.

As a Filipino American, I am honored to represent the City of San Diego's sixth district, where 1 out of every 3 residents is of Asian American descent. Filipinos are the second largest Asian group in the United States, and it was recently announced that the Philippines is globally the second-fastest growing economy. San Diego is home to a large, diverse and vibrant Asian community, making up 16 percent of our city's population.

National Blood Donor Month

National Blood Donor Month has been observed in January since 1970 with the goal of increasing blood and platelet donations during winter – one of the most difficult times of year to collect enough blood products to meet patient needs. I rolled my sleeves up during my lunch break to help those in need.
