The Communications Division oversees all internal and external emergency communication equipment and dispatch staff ensuring that equipment and personnel are able to easily communicate with the public and each other.

When you have a fire or medical emergency in the City of San Diego, you will end up talking with personnel at the Emergency Command and Data Center located in Kearny Mesa.

Staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the center is responsible for all medical, fire, and rescue operations in the City of San Diego and is also contracted to dispatch for Poway, Chula Vista, National City and Imperial Beach.

National Accreditation

The City of San Diego's Emergency Command and Data Center is the 27th Center in the entire world to garner a "Center of Excellence" award from the National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch.

To receive accreditation, the Dispatch Center was required to meet the Academy's "Twenty Points of Accreditation" including a 90-95% sustained compliance and accuracy rated on such issues as case entry and key question protocols.
