Citations

Driver's receiving citations prior to February 1, 2013 are still required to pay a fine. Each citation carries a minimum $480 penalty. Citations will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle within 15 days of the violation. The citation will include four photographs of the vehicle:

  • Two images showing the position of the vehicle prior to entering the intersection after the light has turned red. One image from the front and one from the back (showing the red light).
  • An image showing the progression of the vehicle through the intersection while the light is still red.
  • A close-up image of the driver's face.

In addition, the intersections are equipped with video technology which will capture twelve seconds of video for each violation. The video will show the violator entering the intersection after the light has turned red. The photos and video can be reviewed at www.violationinfo.com

If necessary, the registered owner/driver may request to see the photographs by calling the SDPD Photo Enforcement Unit at (858) 573-5055. A specific appointment date and time will be given to the registered owner/driver for viewing of the photographs. If the registered owner was not the driver at the time of the violation, he/she can identify the driver of the vehicle when he/she sees the photographs and the citation will be dismissed. If the registered owner of the vehicle was the driver at the time of the violation, the matter will be referred to the court for adjudication.

Failure to pay the fine or appear in court on the violation will result in an additional fine against the registered owner's driver's license.
