Declining Water Level Closes Boat Dock at Lake Hodges

SAN DIEGO - The driest winter in San Diego County history continues to plague the City recreation program at Lake Hodges. Declining water levels have now forced the Water Department to restrict public access to the boat dock through the end of the 2002 season.

Due to on-going low water levels, access to the boat launch ramp had already been restricted. Last week, lake staff were required to move the dock from its usual location and re-anchor it in deeper water to prevent it from running aground.

Despite the recent changes, the Lake Hodges Aquatic Center will continue to rent all types of watercraft and motorboats from their location at the windsurfing center located closer to the dam. A limited number of boats are available and can be reserved by calling (760) 735-8088. The lake will close for the 2002 season at sunset on Labor Day, September 2.
