San Diego - The City of San Diego Water Department will co-sponsor a special event to celebrate the 32nd Anniversary of National Hunting And Fishing Day (NHF Day) on Saturday, September 27, 2003. The free event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Lake Murray in La Mesa (from the I-8 take the 70th Street / Lake Murray exit and head north to Kiowa Drive).

In observance of NHF Day, the Water Department will also waive fishing permit fees at the following City lakes: Barrett, Hodges, Murray, Upper and Lower Otay, and Sutherland. Fishing license fees will also be waived by the California Department of Fish and Game on this day.

Featured demonstrations include fly-casting, turkey, duck and predator calling, hunting dog retrieving, and decoy carving. More than 40 sportsman's and conservation groups will also be there with booths, giveaways and information on hunting and fishing.

The Outdoor Channel will also be there holding auditions for an upcoming special. The winner will host his/her own fishing show that will air on The Outdoor Channel.

NHF Day was established by congress in 1972, to recognize the vital role that hunters and anglers play in wildlife conservation. Through special license fees and excise taxes on their equipment, sportsmen and women contribute over $3 million each day to pay for land acquisition, habitat improvement and other wildlife programs.

At the national level, this year's 32nd Anniversary celebration will focus on ensuring a bright future for outdoor sports and on recognizing the past conservation efforts and achievements of American sportsmen and women. Millions of Americans will attend NHF Day programs sponsored in communities around the nation.
