Joseph A. Cotruvo, Ph.D.

Joe Cotruvo is the Principal for Joseph Cotruvo Associates, an environmental and public health consulting firm, and is as active in the World Health Organization (WHO)/NSF International Collaborating Centre for Drinking Water Safety and Treatment. Previously, he served as Director of the Criteria and Standards Division of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Drinking Water, where he developed the Drinking Water Health Advisory System and National Drinking Water-Quality Standards and Guidelines under the Safe Drinking Water Act. He was also Director of the Risk Assessment Division for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and former Vice President for Environmental Health Sciences at NSF International. Recently, he served as a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel for the Santa Ana River Water Quality and Health Study and a member of the WHO Drinking Water Guidelines development committees. Cotruvo received a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Toledo and a Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry from Ohio State University.
