The Department of Information Technology is responsible for providing the City of San Diego's Information Technology strategic direction, policies, procedures, and standards. The Department coordinates or manages Citywide IT services and initiatives as outlined under Services. The mission is to "provide responsive and dependable delivery of Information Technology services to the City organization to support fiscally sound and effective government." The Department's goals are to (1) effectively manage the delivery of Citywide technology services; (2) guide technology decision-making to ensure consistency with the Citywide business direction; (3) ensure a skilled, responsive, and innovative workforce that keeps current with evolving business-critical technologies; and (4) provide high quality customer service.

City IT News
IT Services Sourcing Project
In March 2011, the City adopted the Final IT Sourcing Strategy Report (PDF) made during a presentation (PDF) to the full City Council. Subsequently, in April 2011, the City issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for IT Services, with proposals due in June 2011. Eight valid proposals were evaluated and rated, four finalist firms submitted their Best and Final Offer (BAFO) proposals in September 2011, and the City made selections to award contracts in November-December 2011. On May 14, 2012, the City Council approved two outsourcing contracts for IT services - (1) with Atos IT Solutions & Services, Inc. for Data Center Services and Service Desk & Desktop Support Services, and (2) with CGI Technologies & Solutions, Inc. for Application Development & Maintenance Services. A third contract is expected to be approved by the City Council in June 2012, with Xerox State & Local Solutions, Inc. for Data Network Services, Voice Network Services, and future Converged Data Network & Voice Communication Services.
