"Providing value through innovation."
The Department of Information Technology is responsible for providing the City of San Diego's Information Technology strategic direction, policies, procedures, and standards. The Department coordinates or manages Citywide IT services and initiatives as outlined under Services. The mission is to "provide responsive and dependable delivery of Information Technology services to the City organization to support fiscally sound and effective government." The Department's goals are to (1) effectively manage the delivery of Citywide technology services; (2) guide technology decision-making to ensure consistency with the Citywide business direction; (3) ensure a skilled, responsive, and innovative workforce that keeps current with evolving business-critical technologies; and (4) provide high quality customer service.
In June 2010, the City issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to hire a Technical Advisory Consultant to assist the Department of IT in developing a Citywide IT Services Sourcing Strategy (Scope of Services, Phase 1) (PDF), at the request of the City Council. The primary drivers for this effort are to optimize service and reduce costs for the City, including options for consolidating data center services with adequate redundancy and high availability for business continuity, and for convergence of the voice and data networks using current technologies. In August 2010, the City selected the firm of Avasant, LLC, to be the Technical Advisory Consultant on this project. The IT Services Sourcing Strategy (PDF) was completed in November 2010 and was presented to City Council on December 6, 2010. At the request of the City Council at the Dec. 6th meeting, a Revised IT Sourcing Strategy Report (PDF) was created for discussion at the January 12, 2011, meeting of the City Council Committee on Rules, Open Government, and Intergovernmental Relations. The Final IT Sourcing Strategy Report (PDF) was delivered as part of a presentation (PDF) to the full City Council on March 14, 2011. The City issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for IT Services on April 15, 2011. Proposals were due to the City on June 23, 2011, and the City is now in the process of evaluating and rating the proposals. Anyone interested in information regarding the RFP process must contact Michael Winterberg in the Purchasing & Contracting Department.
