Bud Kearns Memorial Pool Officially Reopens

Bud Kearns Pool Facility

The Bud Kearns Memorial Pool has officially reopened! The pool was closed for repairs for more than a year and is now open to the public for lap and recreational swimming.

The pool is located in Morley Field Park in the North Park Community and is named after William A. Kearns, a former City recreation director. It first opened in 1933 and is considered one of the oldest San Diego pools open to the public.

Construction started in May 2020 to upgrade the historic facility to meet the latest Department of Health Services requirements and accessibility standards. This includes a new swimming pool re-circulation system, overflow recovery gutter system, risers, handrails, deck edging and compliant pool markings.

Accessibility upgrades were also made, including an ADA compliant path of travel leading from the parking area to the pool deck. Changes were also made to the showers, toilets and drinking fountain to make them more accessible.
