With heavy rain causing flooding across the City of San Diego, emergency teams were deployed to areas where residents and property have been impacted and experienced severe flooding.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department swift water rescue team is responding to multiple locations along the San Diego River, central parts of the city, low-lying areas near the coast and the Tijuana River Valley. Hundreds of people have been rescued from homes and flooded areas. The City asks residents to stay off the roads if you don’t need to travel.

The Red Cross has opened an overnight emergency shelter at Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Ave., for residents impacted by flooding and storm damage. The City has opened a temporary shelter at the Golden Hill Recreation Center, 2600 Golf Course Drive. The location will remain open until 9 p.m. Monday evening.

Roads in Mission Valley and numerous other communities are closed. For an updated list of road closures, visit sandiego.gov/storm

Due to flooding, the City is temporarily relocating people staying at the City’s 16th & Newton Bridge Shelter to the Balboa Park Activity Center and some residents at the 20th & B Safe Sleeping site to Golden Hall.

The Inclement Weather Shelter Program has been activated. People experiencing homeless can show up directly at the locations to gain access to a bed. For a list of locations, visit the Inclement Weather Shelter Program webpage.
