Item 30 - 2023 City of San Diego Women of Distinction - To recognize the contributions of women in our city, Mayor Todd Gloria and the San Diego City Council are honoring 10 local women who have made a significant impact on their communities and helped create a better San Diego for all of us. For the past seven years, during Women’s History Month in March, Mayor Gloria has hosted the Women of Distinction recognition ceremony dating back to when he was in the Assembly. This year, ten women were selected, one person for each Council District and one selected by Mayor Gloria. These Women of Distinction honorees will be recognized at the 10 a.m. session.

 

Proclamations

Item 31 – Dr. Frank Tangeherlini Day celebrates a U.S. Army Veteran who saw combat during the Battle of the Bulge and Alsace and made his home San Diego.

 

Item 32 – Suella Steel Day honors a woman who has represented the United States in international tennis for nearly 50 years.

 

Item 33 - Brigadier General Jason and Jane Conwell Morris Day celebrates a couple who have been dedicated to serving the country and helping Marine Corps families.

 

Item 34 – Ramadan Month recognizes the sacred month of fasting, praying and reflecting for Muslims around the world.

 

Item 35 – Moana Jr. Performance Day acknowledges the special performance by Maraya Performing Arts which is dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion.

 

Item S500 – Nowruz 1402 celebrates the Persian New Year which is celebrated by over 300 million people all over the world.

 

S501 Women’s History Month recognizes the historic achievements of women around the world in all facets of life – science, community, government, literature, art, sports, medicine, and more.

Item 330 - Black Lives Experiencing Homelessness Matter: A Critical Conceptual Framework for Understanding How Policing Drives System Avoidance Among Vulnerable Populations - Researchers at San Diego State University will present on their research paper titled, “Black Lives Experiencing Homelessness Matter: A Critical Conceptual Framework for Understanding How Policing Drives System Avoidance among Vulnerable Populations.” This paper examines racialized encounters with the police from the perspectives of people experiencing homelessness in San Diego, California in 2020.

 

Item 331 – 2023 City Council Work Plan - This is an informational item providing Councilmembers and the public an opportunity to review and provide feedback on the 2023 City Council Work Plan. Council President Elo-Rivera will finalize and post the 2023 City Council Work Plan following the meeting.

Temas ceremoniales 

Tema 30 - 2023 Mujeres de Distinción/Distinguidas de la Ciudad de San Diego - Para reconocer las contribuciones de las mujeres en nuestra ciudad, el alcalde Todd Gloria y el Concejo Municipal de San Diego honrarán a 10 mujeres locales que han tenido un gran impacto en sus comunidades y han ayudado a crear un mejor San Diego para todos.  

Desde 2016, en marzo, durante el Mes de la Historia de la Mujer el alcalde Gloria ha organizado esta ceremonia de reconocimiento de Mujeres de Distinción que se data a sus días en la Asamblea. Este año, diez mujeres fueron seleccionadas, una por cada Distrito del Consejo y una seleccionada por el alcalde Gloria. Estas mujeres homenajeadas serán reconocidas en la sesión de las 10 a.m. 

 

Proclamaciones 

Tema 31 – Día del Dr. Frank Tangeherlini celebra a un veterano del Ejército de los Estados Unidos que estuvo presente durante la Batalla de las Ardenas y Alsacia e hizo su hogar en San Diego. 

 

Tema 32 – Día de Suella Steel honra a una mujer que ha representado a los Estados Unidos en el tenis internacional durante casi 50 años. 

 

Tema 33 – Día del General de Brigada Jason y Jane Conwell Morris celebra a una pareja que se ha dedicado a servir al país y ayudar a las familias del Cuerpo de Marines. 

 

Tema 34 – El mes del Ramadán reconoce el mes sagrado de ayuno, oración y reflexión para los musulmanes de todo el mundo.  

 

Tema 35 – Moana Jr. Performance Day reconoce el desempeño especial de Maraya Performing Arts que está dedicado a la diversidad, la equidad y la inclusión.
