City Council

The People's Business - Feb. 22, 2021

The issue of short term vacation rentals returns to City Council over two years after an ordinance was passed addressing the subject and then subsequently rescinded.  To say the least, this is a controversial item.

City Council Meeting – Feb. 23, 2021

Councilmembers will enter closed session at 9 a.m. to discuss two items.  At 11 a.m., they will return for the open session agenda

11 items are on the consent agenda including a corporate partnership agreement with California Coast Credit Union, amending the City recycling ordinance and approval of contracts with various companies.  Two ceremonial items are scheduled, one proclaiming “Barry Bernstein Day” and the other proclaiming “Bill Brunnhoelzl Day”, honoring a San Diego resident and Navy Veteran who is turning 100 years old.

One item occupies the adoption agenda which is expected to draw many comments.

Regulations for Short Term Residential Occupancy (Item 330) – Council President Campbell requests that the City Council approve an ordinance that regulates Short Residential Occupancy (STRO), or what’s commonly known as short term rentals.  The ordinance amends the Municipal Code to include short term residential occupancy licensing and operating regulations on hosts and hosting platforms.  It would regulate hosting platforms, good neighbor policies, enforcement and establish limits on the number of licenses.
