The People's Business - January 11, 2022

Two committee meetings round out a busy week back from the holidays.  The ED & IR Committee will hear an assessment of potential childcare facilities in San Diego.  The LU & H committee will look at updates to the municipal code which would incentivize and promote new housing opportunities throughout the city. 


Scheduling note: The Council will be on legislative recess on Monday and Tuesday honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day but three committee meetings will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.

reading to childrenItem 1 – Assessment for Childcare Facilities - To address the shortage of affordable childcare facilities in San Diego, the Department of Real Estate and Airport Management was tasked with assessing City owned properties for potential use as childcare facilities and reporting the findings to this Committee. Staff recommends issuing a Request For Information so the City can identify potential operators with knowledge of childcare facility requirements to assist with the final selection of sites, provide details on what tenant improvements would be required and ensure the site(s) would be in compliance with childcare facility needs and building code requirements that cannot be waived regardless of the facility operator or property.


 


US CapitolItem 2 – Authorization of Execution and Funding of the Consultant Services Contracts Between the City of San Diego and Holland & Knight LLP to provide Federal Legislative and Executive Branch Consulting Services and Representation – Approval of a contract between the City of San Diego and Holland & Knight LLP in an amount not to exceed $168,000.00 per year for a term of five years.  This Contract will provide services to ensure that the City maintains effective advocacy before the federal legislature and regulatory bodies.


 


Item 3 - Discussion of Economic Development & Intergovernmental Relations Committee Priorities for 2022 - Incorporating Priorities Submitted by Committee Members and Seeking Public Input – San Diego’s Municipal Code requires that each standing committee develop an annual work plan and compile a year-end report to be presented to the Council at the end of each year.  The Council President shall use the posted work plans to develop the annual Council work plan to be presented at a Council meeting in March of each year.


 


Item 4 – Department of Government Affairs FY2021 Grants Report – The Grants Division of the Department of Government Affairs will give a presentation on its Fiscal Year 2021 Citywide Grants Report released on September 30, 2021, discuss the current state of grants activities, provide a brief overview of the Division, citywide pandemic funding, and a year-over-year analysis.

Kearny Vista ApartmentsItem 1 - Homes for All of Us: Housing Action Package Amendments to the Municipal Code and Local Coastal Program Amendments – The Housing Action Package is a part of the Homes for All of Us initiative. Through updates to the Land Development Code, the Housing Action Package aims to incentivize and promote new housing opportunities throughout the city that San Diegans of all income levels can afford.
