Item S503 – Resolution Condemning the Trump Administration’s Attacks on Higher Education, and Affirming the City of San Diego’s Commitment to Protecting Higher Education from Political Interference.

This item would adopt a Resolution condemning political interference and attacks on institutions of higher education by the Trump Administration, including attempts to withhold federal funding to advance ideological political objectives, and affirming the City of San Diego’s commitment to protecting academic freedom, institutional independence, scientific research, diversity, equity, inclusion, freedom of speech, peaceful protest, and the rights and safety of students, faculty, researchers, and staff. 

It would also direct the City Clerk to transmit copies of the Resolution to the Governor of California, California’s Congressional delegation, the President of the University of California system, the Chancellor of the California State University system, the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges system, local higher education institutions located within the City of San Diego, and other appropriate educational and governmental entities.
