Item 330 – Resolution Adopting a Working Definition of Islamophobia as an Educational Tool to Identify, Condemn, and Combat Anti-Muslim Hate, and Affirm the City of San Diego’s Commitment to Religious Freedom and Civil Rights
This item addresses the recent and historic instances of Islamophobia by approving a resolution adopting a working definition of Islamophobia as an educational tool to identify, condemn, and combat anti Muslim hate, and affirm the city of San Diego’s commitment to religious freedom and civil rights.
Following that attack, the U.S. Immigration Policy Center at the University of California San Diego found that 88 percent of surveyed Muslims in San Diego County reported feeling less safe in their community, 74 percent reported increased concern for their personal safety because they are Muslim, nearly two thirds reported experiencing discrimination in the previous year because of their Muslim identity, and nearly one-half expressed concern that threats against Muslims are not taken seriously.
Item 331 – First Amendment to the Ground Lease Disposition Agreement Between the City of San Diego and 101 Ash Venture LP, a California Limited Partnership for the City Owned Property Located at 107 Ash Street (Formerly 101 Ash Street), San Diego, CA
This item requests approval of the First Amendment to the Ground Lease Disposition Agreement between the City of San Diego and 101 Ash Venture LP for the redevelopment of the City-owned property located at 107 Ash Street, formerly designated as 101 Ash Street.
The agreement turns the property into a mixed-use affordable housing project and making related findings regarding the fulfillment of economic opportunity objectives consistent with Government Code section 52201.
The First Amendment updates the previously approved transaction documents to align with the Project’s finalized financing and development structure and facilitate closing.
Key modifications include:
- Extending the Ground Lease term from 60 to 65 years and corresponding affordability requirements;
- Revisions to the Ground Lease and City Promissory Note necessary to accommodate the Project's financing and closing requirements;
- Increasing the Project from 250 to 252 residential units consisting of 249 affordable units and three unrestricted manager’s units.
