Councilmembers will consider increasing the funding for legal services for the law firm representing the City in lawsuits related to 101 Ash Street and Civic Center Plaza.  The Council will also discuss a potential increase in wastewater rates.

City Council Meeting – September 21, 2021

 

The Council will address the Consent Agenda, Ceremonial Proclamations and non-agenda public comment starting at 10 a.m.  Members will adjourn and enter Closed Session at approximately 11am and then resume for the Discussion Agenda at 2pm.

 

The Consent Agenda comprises 11 items.  They include a lease agreement with the Mingei International Museum and declaring a continued State of Emergency due to the Pandemic.  Also on the agenda are proposed appointments and reappointments to the Small Business Advisory Board, the San Diego Housing Commission Board of Commissioners and the Human Relations Commission.

Item 330 - First Amendment to Agreement with Schwartz Semerdjian Cauley & Evans LLP to Provide Continued Legal Services as Panel Outside Counsel – The City of San Diego currently has an as-needed agreement with the above listed law firm, as one of the City’s retained panel counsel to provide legal services in Business and Financial Affairs.  The City Attorney’s Office seeks approval of a First Amendment to this legal services agreement with the Law Firm to increase the total not-to-exceed amount to $750,000 from $250,000. The $500,000 increase is necessary to continue work the Law Firm is performing on behalf of the City, which primarily consists of representing the City in lawsuits related to the City’s lease acquisition of the 101 Ash Street and Civic Center Plaza properties.  For a list of the lawsuits click here for the staff report.

 

 

 

Water genericItem 331 - Wastewater and Water Rate Adjustments, and Cost of Service Study - This item is a discussion and vote on wastewater rates examined in the wastewater cost of service study, as well as a proposal to increase water rates to cover San Diego County Water Authority charges for water purchases.
