Sumaia Alabari

Intern

Sumaia Alabari is an emerging public service professional with experience in student support, community service, and customer service. She is currently gaining local government experience with the City of San Diego’s Commission on Police Practices, where she is learning more about civilian oversight, public accountability, and community outreach.

Her background includes supporting system-impacted students through SDSU Project Rebound, participating in the City of San Diego’s Summer Civic Internship, and serving the public through education, healthcare, caregiving, and customer service roles. She has also developed leadership and administrative experience as a shift leader, where she manages daily operations, documentation, staff coordination, and communication with customers and employees. 

While completing her bachelor’s degree at San Diego State University, Sumaia was named to the Dean’s List for four semesters and participated in several student organizations focused on service, advocacy, and campus involvement. These experiences strengthened her interest in working with people from different backgrounds and contributing to her community.

Sumaia earned her bachelor’s degree in English from San Diego State University and will begin the university’s Master of Public Administration program. She plans to continue building a career in local government and public service, with a focus on making public institutions more accessible to the people they serve.
