All 'Bout The Blues

With Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir San Diego

-

Each year the All 'Bout the Blues production showcases MLK Choir's commitment to providing passionate, inspired musical theater that ignites the human spirit. The cast is an all-volunteer cast with a few exceptions. Some of San Diego's finest paid musicians enhance the production.

"Blues" is an African-American music that traverses a wide range of emotions and musical styles. "Feeling blue" is expressed in songs whose verses lament injustice or express longing for a better life, lost loves, jobs, and money. Blues is also a raucous dance music that celebrates pleasure and success. Central to the idea of blues performance is the concept that, by performing or listening to the blues one is able to overcome sadness and lose the blues.

The All 'Bout the Blues Program, will take place on May 20, 2017 at the Joan Kroc Theater, 6611 University Avenue, San Diego, CA 92115. The cost to attend is $25 for adults and $10 for children under 15.
A cast of youth and adult singers, dancers and musicians will perform music from a historical perspective originating in gospel and spirituals, to R&B, swing, jazz, hip hop, rock...to other contemporary music. The expected audience attendance is 600 at each show. The show is always a sell out. The targeted audience includes all ages, genders and cultures as the production offers a family friendly and affordable theater experience to San Diego communities.
