Casa Familiar invites you to the second Annual Abrazo Awards, "Abrazo 5K Let's Go San Ysidro!", a community walk through San Ysidro on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 from 7:15am to 11am. 

This year, Casa Familiar celebrates its 50th year as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the community of San Ysidro and low-income individuals with the mission to enhance quality of life for low income individuals and families through Advocacy, Social Services, Education, Affordable Housing, Arts and Culture, a Community and Economic Development.

In light of recent events and our continued dedication to the fight for equity for all, we reshaped our Annual Abrazo Awards to focus on community and movement building to advance the movement towards justice and equity for communities like San Ysidro, and celebrate community champions and leaders who advance that movement.  

To prioritize the health and safety of all, we are planning a hybrid virtual and socially distanced 5k walk. We invite you to join us in whatever way you feel comfortable, in your neighborhood, on the treadmill, or alongside us in the heart of San Ysidro while following the County safety guidelines for COVID-19.

Details: Pre/post-event: we will utilize the grassy area between the parking lots at De Anza Cove Park for runner check-in and registration as well as for team meeting areas. We will utilize the grassy area south of the path at De Anza Cove Park for pre-race festivities consisting vendors and activity booths. Start/finish will be near the restrooms at the park, on the multi-use path.

Course: participants will head west on the multi-use path out of De Anza Cove Park and turn north onto the northbound lane of De Anza Road. They will take a right onto N. Mission Bay Drive in the eastbound lane. They will continue on in the southbound lane of Mission Bay drive until turning back into the park via the entrance to the parking lot south of Leisure Island (2194 E Mission Bay Dr). They will follow the multi-use path (Bayside Bikeway) north though the park, finishing at the starting location in De Anza Cove Park.

Water stops: water stops will be set up just south of the first small parking lot as one departs De Anza Cove on Mission Bay Drive. We plan to have one station on the road and one on the path as runners return in the park. An additional water stop and first aid tent will be placed at the turn off from Mission Bay Drive into the parking lot just south of Leisure Island (2194 E Mission Bay Dr).

The Crystal Pier Outrigger Canoe Race is a Southern California Outrigger Racing Association Race, hosted by Hanohano Canoe Club in San Diego, CA. The race is usually held at Crown Point within Mission Bay in San Diego, CA. Typically, the event draws 1500+ participants annually who battle in a 5 mile novice and kid’s race, 10 mile men, women and coed races in six person outrigger canoes.

Fiesta Island Time Trials is San Diego's original time trial series since 1968, sponsored by San Diego Bicycle Club. Our title sponsor UC Cyclery will provide onsite mechanical support, and prizes. We use WebScorer.com for online registration, timing, and results to streamline the process. Results will be posted after the last rider has finished.

The La Jolla Half Marathon and La Jolla Shores 5K are point to point races along the scenic coastline of San Diego. The Half Marathon starts at the Del Mar Fairgrounds main parking lot and continues south as near the coast as possible. The La Jolla Shores 5K starts on La Jolla Shores Drive near the corner of Horizon Way and continues south through La Jolla Shores along the Boardwalk, and along the coast. The finish line for both races is at scenic Ellen Browning Scripps Park at La Jolla Cove.

A Fast and Unique Figure Eight Crit Experience

Join in the thrill of fast-paced bicycle racing by pro racers, top-level amateurs and a fun children's cycling event at the Barrio Logan Grand Prix, one of Southern California's largest cycling events. The race is open to men and women of all ages, from professional and Olympic level cyclists to first-time racers. BLGP is the proud host of the SCNCA Junior Criterium Championships!

The 0.8-mile race course takes place in historic downtown Barrio Logan and will begin and end on Newton Avenue across from Perkins Elementary School. Spectators will have access to numerous views of the racers along city streets in the Barrio Logan area throughout the day.

A free bike safety rodeo for kids will be held from 09:30-11:30 offering free helmets supported by Performance Contracting, SANDAG iCommute, and Barrett Engineered Pumps. Bring your bike to participate in the free community kids race to the finish line at 11:40!

San Diego's second oldest race, and part of the local competitive Dirt Dogs Series for clubs and individuals. It has been renamed last year for Tom Bache, a local competitive runner and long-time San Diego Track Club member. This is a challenging four mile trail run along the west side of Balboa Park, following 6th ave, Bridle Trail, Marston Loop and Maple street area. The Run starts and finishes on the grass South of Quince street and west of Balboa drive. There are age group awards starting at under 12yrs, 18, 24 and then every 5 years up to over 80yrs.

Lt Travis Manion (USMC) was killed in action while deployed in Iraq in 2007. His family started up the foundation in his name, and its primary goal is to improve the mental health & well-being for veterans and families of the fallen. The walk route will begin on the walk path west of Preble Field, headed south, turning right on the walk path along the water. The route will turn around at the USS Recruit and continue back towards NTC Park, turning left at Farragut Road. The route will cut through the park on walking paths and exit at Womble Road heading north west. Walkers will turn right on Historic Decatur Road and continue until the road ends at the walking path. Walkers will turn right on the path to continue back to NTC Park. Walkers will remain on walking paths or sidewalks for the entirety, with course marshals closely monitoring safe crossing at all intersections. We do not intend to close any streets.

The 45th Annual Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships consists of two races. A girls 5K and a boys 5K. The course heads west around the dog park and returns along the south side of the tennis courts. It then continues around the pool, across Joe Schloss way crossing Jacaranda and then heading up to the top of the hill and then down the dirt path along Upas Street. Then back across Jacaranda and then Joe Schloss Way. That loop is 1.5 miles. The loop is repeated a second time in which the runners then finish south of the pool and north of the soccer/baseball fields.

Sunday, February 25, 2024, 6 - 9am Fiesta Island Time Trial

Fiesta Island Time Trials is San Diego's original time trial series since 1968, sponsored by San Diego Bicycle Club. Time trials are known as the race of truth, it is the cyclist against the clock. Athletes select category and distance, 3 laps (20km) or 6 laps (40km) around Fiesta Island, juniors will ride one or two laps. Single riders, tandems, and teams all compete for top honors and island records. An awards ceremony will be held after the last athlete finishes. Top six finishers in each category will be eligible to earn points towards series competition. Awards will be given to series winners at the last race of the series.

The race is held rain or shine! There are 150 riders maximum per day, and the event sells out very early. Entry is on a first come, first served basis. Sign up early online at WebScorer.com at a discounted price. Registration the day of the race is at full price. The registration table opens at 6:00 AM and closes at 6:45 AM. First racer is off at 7:00:30 AM subsequent racers start at 30 second intervals.

All events are centered around our mission of accelerating cures for cancer, with 100% of dollars raised going directly to local cancer research. Participants register to fundraise in honor of survivors, fighters, or loved ones lost to cancer and participate for amazing, challenging, and inspiring experience. Pacific Beach Tennis Club's members are extremely important to us, and we strive to help our members create wonderful relationships, memories, to relax, and to just have fun through tennis.

In that pursuit Pacific Beach Tennis Club offers numerous adult racquet sport events throughout the year that offer opportunities to play, compete, meet, greet, trade conversation, eat and drink. This includes tournaments, leagues, exhibitions, parties, promotions, and celebrations – all of which help to create a sense of community with strong and long lasting friendships.

Regardless of one’s tennis or pickleball level or ability, members are always welcome to participate in our sports and social events. Some fun social events coming up include:
A Spring Break Mixer, our PB open tournament, Road to Roland Garros, Wimbledon Whites, Summer Luau Mixer, Summer Exhibition, Mixed Doubles Exhibition, US Open Mixer, Turkey Tournament and more.

Saturday, April 13, 2024, 6 - 9am Fiesta Island Time Trial

Fiesta Island Time Trials is San Diego's original time trial series since 1968, sponsored by San Diego Bicycle Club. Time trials are known as the race of truth, it is the cyclist against the clock. Athletes select category and distance, 3 laps (20km) or 6 laps (40km) around Fiesta Island, juniors will ride one or two laps. Single riders, tandems, and teams all compete for top honors and island records. An awards ceremony will be held after the last athlete finishes. Top six finishers in each category will be eligible to earn points towards series competition. Awards will be given to series winners at the last race of the series.

The race is held rain or shine! There are 150 riders maximum per day, and the event sells out very early. Entry is on a first come, first served basis. Sign up early online at WebScorer.com at a discounted price. Registration the day of the race is at full price. The registration table opens at 6:00 AM and closes at 6:45 AM. First racer is off at 7:00:30 AM subsequent racers start at 30 second intervals.
