Sunday, September 15, 2024, 6:30 - 8:30am	Binational Race The Binational Race San Diego Tijuana offers a unique opportunity to traverse the half marathon route shared between San Diego and Tijuana The half marathon begins its route at Las Americas in San Ysidro, proceeding along Camino de la Plaza avenue until reaching Dairy Mart Rd. At kilometer 5, participants will enjoy the natural reserves of Tijuana River Valley Park. At kilometer 10, they will experience crossing the border through the San Ysidro El Chaparral international checkpoint. Join over 4,000 participants running through the Border (Far Right Lane) on Freeway 5 to enter Mexico through the worlds busiest border crossing. Following this historic crossing, participants will continue along the international route. This significant effort will be rewarded with panoramic views of San Diego and a fast 5km descent until reaching the finish line at the Monumental Bullring in Playas de Tijuana. The Binational Race 2024 is part of a regional movement promoting cultural, social, academic, sports, political, and family exchanges between San Diego and Tijuana. The event typically raises just north of $75,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad, with the events 42-year total fundraising over $2 million. Highlighted by colorful costumes, intense competition, and a lot of laughter, the day is a fun one consisting of sand, sun, and lots of bocce action. Time trials are known as the race of truth, it is the cyclist against the clock. Athletes select category and distance, 3 laps (20km) or 6 laps (40km) around Fiesta Island, juniors will ride one or two laps. Single riders, tandems, and teams all compete for top honors and island records. An awards ceremony will be held after the last athlete finishes. Top six finishers in each category will be eligible to earn points towards series competition. Awards will be given to series winners at the last race of the series. The race is held rain or shine! Oktoberfest is held around the globe to celebrate the traditions that began in Munich, Germany in 1810 and it is one our favorite celebrations of the year! Have you ever noticed the light, crisp, and refreshing taste of a German lager is oftentimes very similar to the light, crisp, and refreshing taste of your favorite Mexican lager? Ever notice the sounds and instruments used in traditional Polka music sound very similar to Mexican Banda or Mariachi music? The tuba, accordion, and pulsing rhythm of a bass drum. Well, its no accident! Austrian (German) Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian was crowned Emperor of Mexico by French rulers in 1864. A reluctant Maximillian made the trek to Mexico and along with him came Austrian settlers. Along with the settlers came the instruments and recipes now used in Mexican beers and the base of some popular versions of Mexican music. Maximillians rein was short lived and in 1867 he was captured and later executed by Mexican opposition. The history can be found here. We were infatuated with this history and wanted to create an Oktoberfest celebration that was as diverse as the great neighborhood of East Village, San Diego. At East Village Oktoberfest guests will enjoy six San Diego based craft breweries versions of German lagers and pilsners, traditional Oktoberfest faire, and Oktoberfest music and games! Binational Race The Binational Race San Diego Tijuana offers a unique opportunity to traverse the half marathon route shared between San Diego and Tijuana The half marathon begins its route at Las Americas in San Ysidro, proceeding along Camino de la Plaza avenue until reaching Dairy Mart Rd. At kilometer 5, participants will enjoy the natural reserves of Tijuana River Valley Park. At kilometer 10, they will experience crossing the border through the San Ysidro El Chaparral international checkpoint. Join over 4,000 participants running through the Border (Far Right Lane) on Freeway 5 to enter Mexico through the worlds busiest border crossing. Following this historic crossing, participants will continue along the international route. This significant effort will be rewarded with panoramic views of San Diego and a fast 5km descent until reaching the finish line at the Monumental Bullring in Playas de Tijuana. The Binational Race 2024 is part of a regional movement promoting cultural, social, academic, sports, political, and family exchanges between San Diego and Tijuana. Time trials are known as the race of truth, it is the cyclist against the clock. Athletes select category and distance, 3 laps (20km) or 6 laps (40km) around Fiesta Island, juniors will ride one or two laps. Single riders, tandems, and teams all compete for top honors and island records. An awards ceremony will be held after the last athlete finishes. Top six finishers in each category will be eligible to earn points towards series competition. Awards will be given to series winners at the last race of the series. The race is held rain or shine! There are 150 riders maximum per day, and the event sells out very early. Entry is on a first come, first served basis. Sign up early online at WebScorer.com at a discounted price. Registration the day of the race is at full price. The registration table opens at 6:00 AM and closes at 6:45 AM. First racer is off at 7:00:30 AM subsequent racers start at 30 second intervals.

Oktoberfest is held around the globe to celebrate the traditions that began in Munich, Germany in 1810 and it is one our favorite celebrations of the year! Have you ever noticed the light, crisp, and refreshing taste of a German lager is oftentimes very similar to the light, crisp, and refreshing taste of your favorite Mexican lager? Ever notice the sounds and instruments used in traditional Polka music sound very similar to Mexican Banda or Mariachi music? The tuba, accordion, and pulsing rhythm of a bass drum. Well, its no accident! Austrian (German) Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian was crowned Emperor of Mexico by French rulers in 1864. A reluctant Maximillian made the trek to Mexico and along with him came Austrian settlers. Along with the settlers came the instruments and recipes now used in Mexican beers and the base of some popular versions of Mexican music. Maximillians rein was short lived and in 1867 he was captured and later executed by Mexican opposition. The history can be found here. We were infatuated with this history and wanted to create an Oktoberfest celebration that was as diverse as the great neighborhood of East Village, San Diego. At East Village Oktoberfest guests will enjoy six San Diego based craft breweries versions of German lagers and pilsners, traditional Oktoberfest faire, and Oktoberfest music and games!
