Sewer Emergency Work on Harbor Drive Progressing

April 30, 2012

Work on the City of San Diego's Harbor Drive Emergency Project reached 80 percent complete in late April 2012. The emergency project is repairing and replacing underground vaults and manholes and restoring the structural integrity of the underground sewer system located along Harbor Drive, between 28th and 32nd streets. "The work is also bringing the system up to current specs, which helps reduce future maintenance costs," said Public Works Department Director Tony Heinrichs.

On March 16 2012, a large truck carrying windmill parts drove over a manhole, causing significant damage and exposure of the sewer system. "City staff immediately responded to the emergency, and has been working to minimize traffic, parking, and other community impacts," informed Heinrichs.

"While changing conditions below ground makes it impossible to have a firm completion date, we're making every effort to complete the emergency repair work as soon as possible."
