Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's Celebration Day

16th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration & Sportsfest Presented by City of San Diego Parks and Recreation is calling for volunteers!

This celebration blends community spirit, cultural pride, and active engagement—perfect for honoring
Dr. King's vision of unity and service. We are looking for volunteers to help support this event.

Date: Saturday, January 24, 2026

Schedules include:

Set up time 6:00am – 11:00pm
Event time: 10:00am - 4:00pm
Breakdown: 3:00pm – 7:00pm

Duties include:

  • Setting up canopies, tables, and chairs
  • Assisting moving vendors equipment at drop off and clean up
  • Liter control
  • Replacing trash can liners
  • Assisting with jumpers
  • Grabbing supplies during the event
  • Working the parking lot gate
  • Working the kids zone area
  • Breaking down
  • Putting all equipment away

Please note:

  • You are required to wear your volunteer staff shirt or yellow vest during your shift
  • Closed toe shoes and appropriate comfortable clothes
  • Recommend bringing a water bottle, hat and sunscreen as the events are held outdoors
  • Check-in is required prior to starting your duty
