Event Details: A special event celebration at the North Park tennis courts to have a plaque dedication ceremony with plaque unveilings for these three tennis legends · Wilbur Folsom, “architect of tennis champions.” From the 1930’s-through the late-1940’s he taught thousands at the North Park tennis courts, followed by nearly two decades at Morley Field. · Maureen “Little Mo” Connolly, the number one tennis player in the world from 1952 to 1954. She grew up across the street from the North Park courts. In 1953 Maureen became the first woman to win the calendar Grand Slam. · Ben Press, known as “Mr. Tennis San Diego.” He began playing tennis in the 1930’s at the North Park tennis courts under the tutelage of Wilbur Folsom. Ben, a national tennis champion, was also a legendary coach in San Diego for over 60 years. |
