Race and Equity designs, facilitates, and evaluates a portfolio of learning pathways to equip City employees and departments with the equity tools to address disparities and move systems-level changes. Our trainings both establish foundational equity concepts and skills that we use throughout the City of San Diego, and responsively support City employees and departments with the skills they need to move equity in their specific bodies of work.

Below, see an overview of our Learning & Development offerings:

Race and Equity Academy

The Race and Equity Academy is our foundational, signature training offering, which equips City employees to advance equity and inclusion in the City of San Diego. The Academy has a full-day, in-person component called Foundations, and is followed up with a virtual case study session called the Equity Innovation Lab. The Academy is open to all City employees.

Leading to Transform

The Leading to Transform training series is "leadership training with an equity lens". The training series equips managers and supervisors with the tools to lead systems-level changes in their teams and departments.

Department Trainings

We recognize that operationalizing equity will necessarily look different from department to department. In response to the needs of different departments, we design and facilitate tailored trainings that equip City departments to integrate equity tools into their core services and programs, and support departments with making systems-level transformation.

 Designing for Equity

The Designing for Equity training prepares City departments to integrate equity into their processes, including ongoing updates and analysis of Tactical Equity Plans (TEPs) and applying an equity lens to their budgets.
