City Host Community Forum for Sherman Heights Utilities Undergrounding Project

May 2, 2012

The City of San Diego's Utilities Undergrounding Program is hosting a community forum (PDF) for its newest utilities undergrounding project on Wednesday May 2, 2012. The event will take place 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sherman Heights Community Center, located at 2258 Island Avenue, San Diego CA 92102.

Construction for Project Block 8B/Sherman Heights 3 is scheduled to begin in June 2012 and is anticipated to be complete in summer 2013. The project will underground 2.28 miles of utilities servicing 416 private residences. City crews will also add 40 streetlights, plant approximately 100 shade trees and install 5 pedestrian curb ramps. Once completed, all of the streets located in the project area will be repaved.

The Utilities Undergrounding Program is part of a citywide effort to remove overhead utility lines from neighborhoods and place them below ground. Over the last decade, the City has placed more than 125 miles of overhead utility lines underground. Concurrently, there are approximately 70 miles of underground utilities in construction, which will benefit more than 7,500 customers throughout San Diego.
