If you attend a local law school, please check job/internship postings through your career services department. All internships are unpaid volunteer positions, for which some law schools may offer academic credit.

If you are outside of San Diego and are interested in a volunteer internship, please send a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and transcript as follows: cityattycivilinternprog@sandiego.gov.

 

Civil Division Volunteer Attorney Program

Volunteer attorneys are typically assigned to a particular unit in the Civil Division to work closely either with litigators or advisory attorneys to assist them on a variety of cases and issues. Depending on the volunteer attorney’s experience and placement, some possible opportunities and responsibilities could include the following: legal research and writing, drafting civil motions and legal memoranda, propounding or responding to discovery, assist with providing legal advice to City departments, as well as attending depositions, mediations, and court appearances.  Please follow this link for more information: PDF iconCivil Volunteer Attorney Program Fact and Information Sheet.
