This unit dedicated to ensuring that housing in San Diego is safe, fair, and livable. HPU takes a focused approach to addressing persistent code violations, substandard rental housing conditions, unfair business practices, and situations where there may be a pattern or practice of violating the Tenant Protection Ordinance or the Short-Term Residential Occupancy Ordinance.
OLSE enforces San Diego’s minimum wage, earned sick leave, living wage laws. OLSE investigates labor violations, helps recover unpaid wages for workers, monitors contractor compliance with prevailing wage laws, and oversees compliance with the Citywide Project Labor Agreement.
This unit was created to pursue public interest causes of action on behalf of the People of the State of California under the Unfair Competition Law, which governs consumer privacy, predatory lending, and unsafe and dangerous products. Through its own litigation and by collaborating with others inside and outside of government, the unit protects public health and safety, restores environmental quality, and sustains economic vitality.
It enforces state labor laws and holds employers accountable for misclassifying workers, withholding wages, and engaging in deceptive business practices, so that all workers in San Diego receive the protections and fair treatment they deserve.
The Family Justice Center - Your Safe Place provides free services to adults, seniors, children, and teens who have or are experiencing domestic violence, family violence, elder abuse, sexual assault, or sex trafficking regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, income, zip code, and immigration status.
The City Attorney’s Office is dedicated to supporting victims of crime by ensuring they are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. In accordance with California law, we work to protect victims' rights, connect them with vital services, and keep them informed throughout the legal process. Whether through advocacy, safety planning, or referrals to community-based resources, our goal is to help victims find stability, healing, and justice.
The Domestic Violence & Sex Crimes Unit handles misdemeanor cases of domestic violence, elder abuse, animal abuse, sexual battery, stalking, and child abuse, including neglect, molestation, and statutory rape.
The City Attorney's Office has led an innovative, first-of-its-kind effort to make aggressive use of California's "red flag law," also known as Gun Violence Restraining Orders (GVROs), which allow authorities to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who pose a threat to themselves or others.
