Implementation Highlights

Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala

The City Planning Department welcomed Associate Planner to the team in January 2023 to take on the role of Tribal Liaison for the department. In this role, the Associate Planner will collaborate with Tribal communities with historic roots in the City to protect and preserve cultural and Tribal cultural resources. The Associate Planner will consult with Tribal representatives on department initiatives, including Climate Resilient SD policies and projects, to ensure that San Diego's Tribal communities have a voice in the process.

As part of the FY 24 budget, the Historical Resources section in the Development Services Department was merged with the Historic Preservation Planning section in the City Planning Department, bringing the City's historic preservation program together within the City Planning Department in the newly named Heritage Preservation section. This consolidation allows the City to more effectively designate and manage the City's historical and cultural resources, including planning for and mitigating impacts related to climate change.
