Fountain - Four Cornerstones of American Democracy

Fountain in the Balboa Park Club Building titled 'Four Cornerstones of American Democracy' by Frederick Schweigardt, (1885 - 1948). The kneeling figures symbolize Community, Home, School, and Church. The figures were called 'modest maidens' on whose shoulders the world rests. It was created in 1935 for the California Pacific Exposition. The mural behind is the 'Progess of Man', by Belle Baranceanu.
