The operetta, Golden Trail, by Charles Wakefield Cadman was set during the gold rush of '49 in California. The plot centered around a stolen consignment of gold dust and the coveted Alvarado family jewels. It was presented in August 1950 in the Balboa Park Bowl in connection with the 'Know Your Park' event. Cadman was honored in 1935 when the California Pacific International Exposition in San Diego declared 4th September 'Cadman Day'.
