Kuhn building on the southeast corner of Fourth and D (now Broadway), site of Woolwine, Sprigg and Nerney's Abstract and Real Estate Office. The photo was taken by Herve Friend for Douglas Gunn's 1887 book 'Picturesque San Diego'. Gunn bought the San Diego Union in 1871 and published annual reviews of the progress of the City and County in pamphlet form. For 1887's review, he was urged to document the developments in illustrated form. He contracted with the American Photogravure Company and he and Mr. Friend captured photos for the book.
