Mayor Pete Wilson and Metropolitan Transit Development Board Vice-Chairman Maureen O'Connor hammer at the spike to kick off downtown construction of the San Diego - San Ysidro light rail. On July 19, 1981 the Trolley made the inaugural run on the South Line between the U.S. - Mexico International Border and Downtown San Diego.
