St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 8th and C Streets. The parish goes back to the first Protestant congregation founded in Old Town in 1853, eventually becoming the parish of Holy Trinity downtown, where it became St. Paul's in 1887. It moved to Banker's Hill in 1951. The photo was taken by Herve Friend for Douglas Gunn's 1887 book 'Picturesque San Diego'. Gunn published annual reviews of the City's progress in pamphlets. In 1887, he was urged to document in illustrated form.
