The City of San Diego is Renewing State Prohousing Designation
The State of California Prohousing Designation acknowledges cities and counties that are actively working to accelerate housing supply through streamlined permitting, supportive policies, and reduced development costs. In November 2022, the City of San Diego received this designation for the first time, and it remains valid until January 2026.
The City Planning Department is applying to renew the City’s State of California Prohousing Designation. Securing this designation will continue to make the City eligible for various state incentive programs and funding opportunities for affordable homes and infrastructure.
Public Review Period for Prohousing Application Now Open
The City encourages community members, stakeholders, and interested parties to review the draft Prohousing Application and provide feedback. All comments will be considered before the application submittal to the State.
The Prohousing Designation is awarded to cities and counties for their programs and policies that accelerate the production of housing. The draft Prohousing Application lists all the programs and policies currently adopted by the City of San Diego that qualify for points. While we encourage any feedback on the draft application, to assist in preparing a successful application would like to know:
- Are there any housing programs that have been omitted from the application?
- Do you have other suggestions for housing programs that would accelerate housing supply through streamlined permitting and supportive policies?
For additional questions regarding Prohousing, contact the City Planning Department at: Prohousing@sandiego.gov.
