Nathan Williams
Nathan Williams is a Senior Liaison Officer with UNHCR, and the Head of the UNHCR Office in San Diego, covering the southern border of the United States. Nathan has over eleven years of experience with UNHCR and UNICEF, including two assignments as a U.S. State Department-sponsored Junior Professional Officer with UNHCR in Nepal and Bangladesh. Other UNHCR assignments include Ethiopia, Malaysia, and Lebanon, as well as nearly four years working on the Europe Refugee Crisis while based in Switzerland. In these assignments, he has worked on refugee registration, asylum processing, refugee resettlement, individual case management, and data protection within registration and case management systems. Nathan has developed significant experience supporting and advising government partners on the reception and intake of refugees, referral systems and standards, site management, and the identification and management of specific needs. Nathan has a master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University (New York City, NY), and a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Santa Clara University (Santa Clara, CA).
