SAN DIEGO – Mayor Todd Gloria today issued the following statement on a new long-term water supply agreement between the San Diego County Water Authority and Eastern Municipal Water District:
“This agreement is a smart, practical step that reflects the innovation this moment demands and delivers real value for San Diego ratepayers. By partnering regionally and making better use of existing infrastructure, the San Diego County Water Authority is helping keep water supplies reliable for San Diegans while also easing pressure on water rates.
“At a time when families are worried about costs and the future of water is becoming more complex, this is the kind of common-sense partnership people want to see: one that protects reliability, centers ratepayers, and shows we can meet big challenges with smart regional solutions.”
This agreement with the Eastern Municipal Water District comes on the heels of a similar regional partnership announcement last month between the San Diego County Water Authority and the Western Municipal Water District. Together, these agreements reflect a broader effort by regional water agencies to coordinate resources, strengthen drought preparedness, and maximize the value of ratepayer investments, which the City of San Diego has long supported and pushed for.
