SAN DIEGO Following the City Councils initial approval of an ordinance today to regulate short-term vacation rentals, Mayor Todd Gloria issued this statement:

"I applaud the City Council for taking the first step toward finally putting common-sense regulations of short-term vacation rentals on the books. I want to thank Council President Campbell for her leadership and building consensus on an issue that previous San Diego officials were unwilling or unable to resolve.

Should the Council take the final step in adopting these regulations, my administration will ensure that they are fully and faithfully implemented and enforced. I am committed to revisiting these regulations and assessing their efficacy after one year.

Todays action also delivers on Mayor Glorias campaign promise to take up short-term vacation rentals within his first 100 days in office.

Final approval of the ordinance requires a second vote at a future Council meeting.
