Mayor Gloria Statement on City Council Action Addressing Islamophobia

SAN DIEGO - Mayor Todd Gloria issued the following statement following the San Diego City Council’s adoption of a resolution establishing a working definition of Islamophobia: 

“Every San Diegan deserves to feel safe, respected and welcome in their community, regardless of their faith or background.

“Today’s action affirms our City’s commitment to confronting anti-Muslim hate and ensuring our Muslim neighbors know that San Diego stands with them. Just as we must speak clearly against antisemitism, we must speak clearly against Islamophobia and every form of hate that seeks to divide our communities.

“Today’s action is an important step, and our work continues. We must keep working together to confront hate and discrimination wherever they occur and ensure every San Diegan is treated with dignity and respect.

“There is no place for hate in San Diego.”
